Nicolae Feraru awarded NEA National Heritage Fellowship!

Congratulations to Nicolae Feraru on being awarded a National Heritage Fellowship, a Lifetime Honor Award by the National Endowment for the Arts!

Nick received the award in September 2013 and was later sent a congratulatory letter from President Barack Obama.

For one night each year, the National Endowment for the Arts invites the recipients of the nation’s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts to share their art forms with the public at the “NEA National Heritage Fellowships Concert.” The 2013 concert will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 8 pm at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium located at 730 21st Street NW.

One of the winners of the 2013 NEA National Heritage Fellowship is Nicolae Feraru, Cimbalom player. Along with Mr. Feraru traditional cimbalom (dulcimer in the Romanian tradition) music, the concert will feature art forms as diverse as Irish fiddling and Native American storytelling, among others. Nick Spitzer, host of public radio’s “American Routes,” will emcee this evening of conversations, demonstrations, and performances.
